Melanie

After growing up in a small town in Ontario, Melanie found herself seeking a life of adventure and service. The Canadian Armed Forces gave her that opportunity. Now after 20 years of service, she is ready to decide what she wants to be when she grows up. She is excited to take this journey of discovery with her loving family and aims to appreciate every moment together as the blessing that it is.
When asked what she most looks forward to doing on this adventure, her answer was “watching sea turtles hatch on the beach and make their way to the ocean.” (Update: we got to see and release sea turtles in Todos Santos Mexico!)
Erik
Trailblazer, Driver, Tech-support
Erik has spent most of his career solving problems in the domains of IT and cyber security. His passion for learning has been a driving force in realizing the dream of travelling, exploring, and learning with his family. He is the trailblazing adventurer this journey needs.
Erik has relished the job of equipping the family with all manner of cameras, drones, and mobile internet solutions, to make sure we stay in touch and document our memories.
Claire
leader, pomeranian lover, artist
As the eldest child, Claire has adopted the role of family director and applies her strong intellect and her deductive reasoning to nearly every situation. When left with material, she will design and build whatever she needs and can offer solutions to any problem. Claire is most looking forward to meeting kids from other countries and learning about how different holidays are celebrated by different people.
She is looking forward to learning how to ride a horse. (Update: Claire has now had three opportunities to ride and learn more about horses.)
Molly
entertainer, animal lover, explorer
Molly’s sense of adventure and love of life is contagious. Always willing to explore, she’ll happily search for hermit crabs or turn over rocks to find insects. She leads the way and inspires courage in her siblings. Her big heart is full of compassion and she always knows when someone needs a hug.
Molly loves penguins and really hopes to see some on this adventure. (Update: Molly got to pet a penguin at the Veracruz Aquarium in Mexico!)
Simon
Superhero, Comedian, hugger
Simon is the spirit of the family - full of spunk and humour. He is the first to find the bright side of things. He loves all superheroes and ninjas and prides himself on his ability to sneak up on his sisters. Simon is a fierce negotiator and problem solver.
Simon wants to spend his days outside playing in playgrounds and hiking. (Update: Simon has hiked in the Rocky Mountains, the Sierra Nevada Mountains, in the desert, and in jungles. He’s also hiked up a volcano!)
